Conference: United Legal Front for Ukraine: Justice and Accountability for the War in Ukraine

In November 2023, the Ukrainian Bar Association, the International Bar Association and the International Bar Association's Human Rights Institute will be hosting an international conference on justice and accountability for the war in Ukraine (the International Conference). The International Conference will gather politicians, diplomats, experts, and civil society organisations working in the field. 

Participation in the International Conference is by invitation only. Please contact for further information.

9:35 - 11:00- Panel I: Collection and Preservation of Evidence of Russia’s Crimes in Ukraine:  The Progress Made and Challenges Encountered

The panel will discuss the steps taken by States, international bodies, and civil society organisations to document the crimes perpetrated by Russia in Ukraine. The panel will discuss some of the good practices, and challenges, and identify recommendations for the way forward. 

11:15 - 12:45 - Panel II. The Ukrainian Justice System Dealing with Atrocity Crimes: Achievements, Challenges and Room for Improvement

The panel will discuss the efforts in Ukraine to investigate and prosecute the crimes perpetrated by Russia. It will comment on the law and procedure concerning the war crimes trial, and how they are implemented. 

14:30 - 16:00 - Panel III. The Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression - One Step Forward, Two Steps Back?

The panel will discuss the initiatives to establish a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression, the progress made so far, the challenges encountered, and the chances of the tribunal becoming a reality. 

16:15 - 17:45 - Panel IV. Putting Victims and Survivors First - Protection, Assistance, Reparations

The panel will discuss the often underrepresented topic of victims, survivors and witnesses - and how to ensure that their rights are protected and their needs are addressed.
